Individual Psychotherapy
I work with individuals of all ages, from children and young people through to older adults. My approach adapts to the person in front of me, but the underlying way of thinking about difficulty stays the same whatever your age: understanding you in the context of your life, relationships, and history, not in isolation.
You may be here because of a specific difficulty, anxiety, depression, or the aftermath of a difficult experience or because of a more general sense that something isn’t working in your life and you’d like space to think it through with someone. Whatever has brought you here, individual therapy offers a confidential space to slow down, be understood, and make sense of what you’re experiencing.
How I Work
My approach is integrative, which means I don’t work from a single fixed model. I draw primarily on systemic thinking, understanding you in the context of your relationships, history, and the wider systems you belong to, alongside psychoanalytic ideas, which pay close attention to unconscious patterns, early experiences, and how these continue to shape how you relate to yourself and others in the present.
In practice, this means sessions aren’t built around a rigid structure or technique. Instead, I adapt how I work to you, to what you bring, what feels most useful to explore, and what kind of space you need in order to feel able to speak freely.
What Brings People to Individual Therapy
People come to see me for many reasons, including anxiety, depression, difficult or traumatic experiences, and eating disorders. I also work with people exploring questions of identity, including LGBTQ+ identities, gender, and cultural identity, as well as those navigating the impact of migration, relationship breakdown, and significant life transitions. Some people come with a clear sense of what they want to work on; others come simply because something doesn’t feel right, without yet having the words for it.
Getting Started
Starting therapy is a significant step, and it’s normal to feel uncertain about it. I offer a free, up to 20-minute phone consultation so we can discuss what’s brought you here and think together about whether this feels like the right fit.
