Couple's Therapy

Relationships go through difficult periods this is a normal part of being close to another person over time. You may be here because of a specific crisis, a longer pattern of conflict or distance, a significant life transition, or simply a sense that you and your partner have drifted apart and want to find your way back to each other. Whatever has brought you to this point, couples therapy offers a space to slow down, be heard, and think together about what’s happening between you.

Couples can take many different formations, including same-sex relationships and polyamorous or non monogamous relationships. Whatever the shape of your relationship, my aim is to understand it on its own terms, not against a fixed idea of what a couple should look like.

How I Work with Couples

As a systemic therapist, I see relationship difficulties not as a sign that something is wrong with either person, but as patterns that develop between people, often shaped by each partner’s history, expectations, and ways of communicating. My role is to help you both step outside these patterns enough to see them clearly, understand how they developed, and find new ways of relating that work better for you.

Sessions are collaborative rather than directive. I won’t take sides or tell you what your relationship should look like. Instead, we’ll work together to understand what each of you needs, where communication breaks down, and what possibilities exist for change, whether that means rebuilding trust, navigating a transition, improving communication, or, in some cases, finding a way to separate with care and respect.

I also have particular experience working with couples where one or both partners are neurodivergent. Neurodivergence, including autism and ADHD, can shape how couples communicate, manage conflict, and experience closeness, and these differences are sometimes mistaken for relationship problems rather than understood as differences in how each partner processes and relates to the world. Making sense of this together can be an important part of the work.

What Couples Bring to Therapy

Couples come to see me for many reasons, including conflict and communication difficulties, infidelity and broken trust, life transitions such as becoming parents or blending families, differences in cultural or family background, and periods of emotional distance or disconnection. I also work with couples navigating migration, cultural difference between partners, and the specific challenges that can arise in LGBTQ+ and non-monogamous relationships.

Getting Started

Taking the step to start couples therapy together can feel daunting, and it’s common for one partner to feel more ready than the other. I offer a free, up to 20-minute phone consultation so we can discuss what’s brought you here and think together about whether this feels like the right fit before committing to ongoing work.
